Giant Sydney Red Gum 1937 -2010


This giant tree, a smooth barked apple or Angophora has reached the end - termites are all through it and it is slowly rotting. It was once an attraction of sorts... see the 1937 picture below.

  1. I would guess this not to be a very long life for a red gum. However, when rotted like this they are better horizontal than vertical!!

  2. On a visit to Killcare some 15 months ago, I was impressed with the forests of Angophora trees. This is a mighty tree, how old would it be?

    On googling, I found a competition for angophora photos, but no closing date...
