Norwegians in Sydney

Today is syttende mai (meaning May Seventeenth) the national day of Norway. In Hyde Park every year there is a gathering of the Norse waving flags, dressing up and picnicing. Here are a few photos taken minutes ago.

  1. Hah ... I sooled Jim onto this gathering today. Little did I know you were already onto it. Good one, Peter. Thanks for sharing in the celebrations to honour Norway's National Day.

  4. I have linked you up to the Theme Day running on the portal for Norwegian Constitution Day, Peter. Hope this is okay.

  5. Fun to see most wearing very dressy clothes for the celebration. Here many wear old fashioned traditional costume, but others are in tee shirts with a Norwegian flag or image of Lief Erikson :-). Fun to see how it's done in Sydney.

  8. What is the plan this year (2014)? I have a friend from Norway and a bottle of Aquavit and not afraid to use it. Love to join the parade. Where/when does it start/finish?

  9. Usually they gather in Hyde Park around midday, perhaps contact the embassy.
